Pre-Employment Drug Tests are drug screens which are done as a condition for hiring. An applicant must pass the drug screen before they officially become an employee. Sometimes these tests are done prior beginning work. Other times they are done shortly after they begin. Post Accident Drug Tests are drug screens completed immediately after an on-the-job vehicular or non-vehicular accident. For-Cause Drug Tests occur when a supervisor observes behaviors that may indicate drug use. These behaviors are predefined in the company Drug Free Workplace policy.
Random Drug Tests are unannounced drug screens where employees are selected randomly from the employee pool. Often, these tests include a group of employees such as drivers, operators of heavy equipment, a specific division or random list from the entire organization.
Return To Duty Testing If an employee tests positive on a previous test, he/she must submit a specimen for testing before he/she may return to.
Follow-Up Drug Tests are drug screens used to monitor an employee after he or she has been found to use drugs and has been referred to an Employee Assistance Program. An employee who has returned to duty after a negative return-to-duty test, may be required to submit to a series of unannounced tests.
Most Common Method of Drug Testing Urinalysis, the most common drug testing method, it has been studied exhaustively and used extensively, has undergone great challenges in the courts, and has proven to be accurate and reliable. Drug tests are used to determine whether a person has used alcohol or illegal drugs. Some tests show recent use only, while others indicate use over a longer period. Urinalysis currently is the only technique approved for drug testing in the Federal workforce. Some employers, however, have already begun using other types of drug tests such as hair test.
